Today is our 50th anniversary, and we will
celebrate with a 12-day trip to Kenya with our entire family. The ten of us leave tomorrow, Saturday the 28th,
flying Rochester-Dulles-Zurich-Nairobi, arriving, if all goes well, at 6:05 PM
Sunday, Kenya time. We will spend our first two nights at Giraffe Manor (http://www.thesafaricollection.com/properties/giraffe-manor) where all the rooms are on the second floor.
We will then fly by charter to the Masai Mara, staying at
Leleshwa camp (http://www.leleshwacamp.com/
), and during this time we will go hot air ballooning at dawn over the game
park. Our timing is slightly early for
the Great Migration of wildebeest, but we hope to be able to see a part of
it. Our next charter will take us to the
Laikipia Plateau where we will stay at Sabuk Lodge (http://www.sabuklodge.com/ ) . Finally, another charter will fly us to the
Northern Frontier District where we will stay at Borana Lodge (http://www.borana.co.ke/ ) in the Lewa
Wildlife Conservancy. Our last charter
will bring us back to Nairobi, and we will depart for Zurich late Wednesday
evening, July 9, arriving Rochester the evening of Thursday, July 10.
As best as I can determine, internet access is variable—good
to absent in the places we’ll be staying, some of which are off the grid. I’ll post to this blog whenever I’m able. Excitement is growing!
Victor - wonderful photos! What a great start to a great adventure. We love the wildlife and to be able to be so up close must be quite an experience. Can't wait to hear more!
